Segmenting the product portfolio and supply methods to achieve market alignment and improved service levels for a major pharmaceutical company
The challenge? After having implemented S&OP and having a reliable plan some areas of our client's product portfolio were showing no signs of improvement in terms of inventory reduction and customer service.
LCP applied its 'Segmented Supply Chain' thinking and identified which products should be managed as 'Lean' and those that required an 'Agile' approach. In doing so, LCP demonstrated to our client how assembly capacity would be better utilised and stability of primary supply would be achieved.
This resulted not only in a better alignment of supply with the country and regional sales cycles, but also significantly reduced inventory. This work highlighted that a new approach to production should be taken that led to shorter set-up times and increased capacity.
