How do you order your groceries online?
As part of the EU project U-TURN, we’re exploring alternative fulfilment methods for grocery home deliveries. Please help us by completing the survey which should only take 5 minutes of your time. Responses are completely anonymous.
Background
In 2014, around 75 million retail ecommerce grocery orders were placed. By 2019 that is forecast to grow to 170 million with revenues of £17bn, a compound growth rate of 17%. This growth presents a strategic conundrum for both retailers and policy makers and their planners.
Current solutions in place for grocery home deliveries ordered on the internet are challenged by the economic growth, the perception of the population that delivery vans increase congestion and environmental guidelines and standards. For this reason alternative fulfilment methods will be required in the future.
New models for urban food transportation
The EU is concerned with trying to minimise the societal impact of food logistics in our increasingly congested cities through the identification and promotion of new operating models. LCP Consulting and Cranfield School of Management have been working together to focus on new models for food logistics in cities. Part of that work has been in-depth research into the grocery ecommerce market and the relative offers of the UK retailers. Along with some cost analysis, it has turned up insights which point to current methods being financially unsustainable in the face of growth to 170 million deliveries. That’s the equivalent of one house in seven getting a grocery delivery every week.
In order to identify alternative fulfilment methods for grocery home deliveries, the customer behaviour and requirements regarding online grocery shopping is investigated. Click here to complete the survey.
