LCP’s Stuart Higgins interviewed by Retail Week: Peak Trading: Preparing for seasonal highs
Trading peaks such as Black Friday put a huge strain on retailers' back-end operations and fulfilment strategies.
In a Retail Week article ‘Preparing for the Seasonal Highs,’ LCP’s Stuart Higgins is among the retail experts advising the industry on ways to improve preparation for this year’s big sales periods and make them more profitable.
Even after retailers’ systems for coping with peaks have been developed and tested, there is the challenge of profitability. Black Friday may have flattered the top line but the positive effect on the bottom line is less clear-cut.
“If you examine fourth-quarter performance for many retailers last year, while Black Friday was huge, their overall quarterly figures were less impressive,” says Stuart Higgins, retail partner at LCP Consulting. “The key question is could they have sold the merchandise at full margin later in the season, instead of on Black Friday, and delivered a higher net fourth-quarter profit as a result?”
