Designing a new production facility to deliver market competitive service and low cost mass customisation capability
LCP identified the means to turn our client's unprofitable supply chain that served an innovative service into a flexible and responsive mass customisation production capability, that not only was responsive to customer orders but also had a low operating cost.
The challenge was to recognise the demand patterns were very distinct and a segmented approach to supply and order promising was critical. By changing the Business Operating Model and supplying on a Make-to-Stock and Make-to-Order basis dependent on customer and demand characteristics this challenge was overcome.
Through a series of detailed workshops and modelling, introducing innovative thinking from other commercial sectors, along with automation concepts widely applied in efulfilment centre design. We guided our client through to a design solution that delivers the responsive and flexible operation required, whilst reducing the unit cost per item produced by over 28%.
